Felix Hernandez Really Needs To Be A Yankee

And not just because every fan would worship at his feet. He needs to be a Yankee because he’d get to star in better commercials. I mean nothing against the Mariners but he’d be able to endorse cars like Jeter or suits like Mo. He wouldn’t have to participate in ads like this, although he does seem very sweet.
The only thing I can’t figure out is why does the commercial feature the Rockies? Is Interleague play that big a deal in Seattle?

  1. A.J. Martelli

hahaha, that commerical was really awkward.

I would love to have Felix…or any good pitcher for that matter. I was watching the Yes Network hot stove show a couple weeks back and someone (I forget who it was) mentioned maybe trading for Mark Buehrle. Not sure if that’s even possible with contract and money circumstances, but I would love to see it, if Pettitte retires. CC, Hughes, Burnett, ???, ???

.:Sigh:. I don’t know, Jane. Yanks have been dormant this off-season. I guess we’ll have to see what happens in the spring.

  2. Jane Heller

A.J., someone on Twitter just told me that Felix has a no-trade clause and the Yankees are on it. I’m sure I could convince him to waive it though. LOL. I hadn’t heard the Buehrle rumor and doubt it’s for real, but we do need a starter. I’m not giving up on one!

  3. antonella

This commercial made me laugh.. I wonder what the Rockies had to say about it? LOL

In a perfect world Felix would go to NY.. In a perfect world Andy, Lee & Felix would be in the rotation..

Needless to say, we don’t live in a perfect world lol

  4. pinstripepride3

Jane, be careful what you wish for. King Felix has thrown 1150 innings and hasn’t even reached his 25th birthday yet. Last year, at the age of 24, he made 34 starts and averaged 110 pitches per start. He is a great pitcher, but he’s arm surgery waiting to happen. We don’t need another Carl Pavano, we needed Cliff Lee.

  5. Jane Heller

No, we don’t live in a perfect world, Antonella. But that doesn’t stop me from dreaming. And my dreams continue to be about King Felix. Of course I used to dream about Roy Halladay and that didn’t work out very well.

A nice commercial, Mark, but a nonsensical one. Why are the Rockies in it?

I have the farm ready, Jeff – the entire farm. I try not to get too attached to the minor leaguers so I don’t have to feel an emotional investment in them when they’re shipped off!

I’m sure the Yankees will make a deal for a starting pitcher, Ron, and I’d like it to be Felix.

You raise a good (but scary) point, pinstripepride3, but most of the pitchers Cashman has been looking at have already had arm problems! At least Felix hasn’t – yet. That’s something.

Never say never, Paul. You know that. Look at how many times teams have vowed not to deal with Boras and yet they do.

  6. cheshirecat9

I thought that commercial was pretty funny. I agree about the Rockies though, strange choice.

Because I am a glass half full kinda guy (or working hard to be) I remain confident that the Yankees will pull something off and have another Championship-Caliber team in 2011. I believe it so strongly I bought tickets to see a spring training game this year! Courtney and my family and I will be at the March 26th game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. I am very excited!

  7. Jane Heller

Cheshirecat! It’s great to see you here since it’s been awhile. Hope all’s good with you. I’m very excited that you and Courtney will be going to spring training this year. I can’t remember if you’ve been before, but it’s so much fun.

  8. dschaub@gpo.gov

“Felix the Cat! The wonderful, wonderful Cat!
Whenever he gets in a fix,
He reaches into his bag of tricks!”
Why oh why does my feeble aging brain recall the theme song to a VERY old cartoon show…but I can’t remember what my dear wife told me to do yesterday…ahh, who knows…I already forgot…
Anyway…to beisbol…yeah, how great ‘twould be to get the King…thankyou, thankyouverymuch…altho’ I agree with Jeff, to paraphrase somebody, It’ll Take A Farm Village to Raise An Interest in such a trade…whatcha gonna do…
Here’s a theory…wonder where the Rockies and M’s hold their spring training sites…could they maybe share a ballpark in Arizona, like the Twins and Bosox do in Florida? Or are they close-by neighbors? Just a thought…

  9. phan52

It’s like a divine decree, I guess, that every top available player should have to play for the Yankees.
    Except, it’s not anymore. 🙂

  10. Jane Heller

Good theory, Dave. Maybe the two teams do share a spring training facility since both are out west and would be in AZ instead of FL. Excellent call!

I love the Mariners commercials, awkward acting and all. Did you see the one from last year on YouTube with Ken Griffey Jr. and Ichiro? Pretty funny stuff. I have no idea why the Rockies specifically, but it does make sense to use a National League team. Most likely the A’s, Angels and other close American League teams would be unwilling to show their batters being struck out in a Mariners commercial.

I actually love the tongue-in-cheek commercials that the M’s have produced over the years. You should see the Griffey clone commercial. It would have you on the floor laughing.
Or even the Ichiro segments that shows you he speaks English better than most of usa here in the South or Northeast.
Someone asked why the Rockies in the commericals?
It has more to do with the Arizona Spring Training schedule than anything else… thank goodness it is not in 3D, we all would have been diving for the coffe table.

  13. Jane Heller

So the two teams are in AZ together during spring training, Renegade. That must be why the commercial features the Rockies. Mystery solved.

I post on a lot of MLB boards Jane. I like your board because it has a lot of activity, and it is smarter than most. Do I hate the Yankees? Not necessarily. And the folks who post on your board are not the typical boorish Yankee fans who expect a divine right (read Mike Francesa on WFAN and the people he speaks to). It is funny to see Yankees fans in a bit of a panic, even though they still have one of the more potent lineups in MLB. I fully expect the Yankees to be in the postseason in 2011.

  15. colombiano2386@yahoo.com

Hi Jane and fellow baseball fans! That was a hilarious commercial but pretty cheesy. Felix would certainly have better commercials here in NY. More importantly, we’d have a young stud ace pitcher in the rotation. The kid is very talented and my stomach sunk last year when he signed the extension with the Mariners. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe if he didn’t have that extension, he would’ve been a free agent this year. He could’ve been such a huge help for the Yanks right now. However, when his extension ends, he will still be at the ripe age of 28 and CC’s contract will be nearing its end. The Yanks should go all out for this stud when the opportunity arises or if they wish, trade for him although the Mariners should be asking for alot in a trade package.

  16. Jane Heller

Hi, Leo. Happy New Year to you. Someone reminded me that Felix has a no-trade clause in his contract now and that the Yankees are on it. But as I said above, I think he’d waive it if the circumstances were right and the Mariners were willing to trade him.
