Ouch!
I turned off the TV with the Yankees-Jays score knotted at 2-2 and Pettitte making way for Joba. I had guests coming for lunch. They were only staying for a couple of hours, so I figured I’d watch the rest of the game after they left – the replay of the game. Wrong. It was still going. We were in the 14th. How exciting, I thought. Wrong again. The second Gaudin gave up that walk I knew we were getting burned.
What a waste of a performance by Pettitte. I mean, how many more 10-strikeout games is he supposed to pitch in his career? And Swisher. Wow. I never thought I’d say this about him but: Great defense! On the other hand, what to make of Tex. I understand a bad week, a bad month, even a bad two months. But he looked so awful, going 0-for-6 with 5 ks, that I almost want to see him benched. Sure, he plays a spectacular first base. But he’s killing the lineup. I beg you, Kevin Long. FIX HIM ALREADY.

That’s one hell of a funk Tex is in. Loosing in extra innings is always a little more annoying than usual. But now, thanks to you, I think it’s time to fire up the BBQ tonight. Lately, it’s apparent how important Acevez is.

the only word i could think to describe today’s game was ouch and then i click on the blog and it’s titled ouch. i went out and was happy and then not that the game was still going on when i returned. great pitching but the trouble moving runners, hitting consistently is back. i like tex but he needs to be moved out of the 3 slot until he gets it back together. i was worried about this series and now the only thing between us and sweep in javy. help. texas helped but i doubt the os can help.

Yup, one hell of a funk, Mike. I get a slow start. I get a bad slump. But this is just weird, given how much better he was last year (and all his previous years). And yup again on Aceves. The Yanks miss him.
Great minds think alike, Barbara. LOL. Andy was so good and I felt so frustrated that he couldn’t get the win. And the middle of the order was just…well, putrid. If you moved Tex out of the three spot in the order, who would you put there instead? Let’s just hope Javy can allow us to leave town with a win!
I have a feeling the word we are all going to love to hate this year is “FUNK” – for it’s cause my wife is a GLEEK and they just had it non stop on one of the shows, but mostly I am tired of analysts using it to describe the Phillies of late….
I trust that pic wasn’t the lunch for your guests…:-) although that’s one way to stop them hanging around to long…LOL

There’s a name that escapes me. Rhythms with elky and he delivered milk. Or something like that. Thought maybe he could have helped. I never underestimated the Jays, I guess maybe I just overestimated the Yanks. They’ve been away from home for two days and they’re all ready home sick. Right now Pettitte should win the Cy Young. I don’t even say that cause I’m a Yankee fan. Hopefully Girardi will give Teix a good slap on the back of the head. Ooooor….someone could make a funny video of herself talking to him? 😀 XD
I say give Tex until the start of the home stand to turn things around before we do something about it; we can’t give up on him yet! As far as the game goes, it’s one to forget, not doubt!!

Yeah, we could all get tired of the word “funk” very easily, Peter. I’m not wild about “slump” either. But the only way out is for our teams not to slump OR be in a funk! And no, I didn’t serve that chicken for lunch. LOL. My guests had to leave because of their daughter’s soccer tournament!
While I thought Melky had a cute personality and came through with those walk-offs, seindsfeld, I don’t ever wish we still had him on the team. He can’t even cut it with the Braves. I agree about Pettitte. How good has he been? Incredible. A video conversation with Tex….Hm. Let’s see how he does in Sunday’s game. If he’s doesn’t get a hit, you can count on me having a “chat” with him.
Girardi said after the game that he’s leaving Tex in the #3 spot no matter what, Brian. Apparently, he was asked by the beat writers about the possibility of moving him. He sounded adamant, which I understand. We shouldn’t give up on Tex at all. I’d never suggest that. But he looks like he needs a day off, or two days off. Something.
Javy has been pitching well lately so I have my fingers crossed that will continue. I don’t think we are going to get swept, I am confident we will pick up a win with this game.
In minor league news the Scranton team also could only score 2 runs, but it was enough for a 2-1 victory over the Gwinnet Braves. Colin Curtis and Jesus Montero both went 0-4, but Dave Winfree hit a two run homer. Ivan Nova pitched well, 6 innings of one run ball. Our old friends Boone Logan and Jonathan Albaladejo both made an appearance. I couldn’t help but think what a bummer it must be to go from the majors back to the minors. One day you are in Yankee Stadium, one of the premier sports venues in the world, the next day you are in Coolray Stadium in Lawrenceville, GA watching eyeball races, dizzy dodgeball and bean bag tosses between innings. I had a great time though and I was glad to see a Yankee victory, even if it was the Scranton team.
Both starting pitchers deserved a win in that game!

I agree with your comment, Jane, about giving Tex a few “rest” days. I said the same thing to my husband yesterday. Remember how well that worked for A-Rod last summer when we played the Marlins. And isn’t it funny how different clubs lately have walked HIM to pitch to A-Rod!
Andy is the absolute best. And Swisher – WOW! Not only does he look better after losing the 20ish pounds, he moves better to be able to make those spectacular saves!
I hope you had a good lunch with your friends. At least, that way, yesterday was a good day for you.

Although I was disappointed that we lost yesterday, we all know that extra-innings games almost always go to the home team. Gaudin is no hero in my book – I know he has not been that bad since his return but his season record so far is less than positive.
The bats overall were nothing to smile about, but especially Tex. They have to do something.
I know we are on our way to Baltimore which should be a positive direction, but I want to end this series with a win. I’d be much more secure if Hughes was starting but Javy has been better of late and its really the hitters that have to come to play today. GO YANKEES!!!
Be careful putting too much hope in what an agent says. But, wouldn’t it be great if your agent was right!!!! The only way to fall off this emotional tightrope is to lose your balance.
Our Dodger game did not go well either. Billingsley was doing fine until he came out in the 7th. Aghh sometimes I question Torre’s decisions. 7 runs in the 7th.
Well, the kid Ely is going today against Hudson.

if they move tex out of the 3 spot while he spends more time in counseling with me, there are many candidates for the slot–cano, swisher or granderson (one in the two slot, one 3), posada, or how about you or me or peggy or melissa or anyone who can put the bat on the ball. ok i’m frustrated but hopefully today will be good. it’s on tv so i am hoping for a good day.

I am sure the RANGERS would take Tex off your hands if you pay part of his salary and do it before the trade deadline so the RANGERS can trade Tex for another boat load of young tallent. You will be able to see some of that young tallent such as ELVIS & FELIZ when you visit the 1st place RANGERS in the Texas heat this Aug.
Thanks for the report on the Scranton game, cheshirecat. At least they won, unlike the “real Yankees.” So Curtis and Montero were 0-for-4. Hm. Good job by Winfree and Nova though. And yeah, I would think being in the minors after having seen the bright lights of the bigs would be a letdown. On the other hand, it must give them all a hunger to play their best to get back up to the Bronx. Glad you had fun.
Weber did have an interesting take on the situation, Melissa. Did you read his book about umpiring? I read excerpts and liked it a lot. I think we fans do tend to overact to and want changes immediately. It’s not a bad idea to step back, take a breath and…sometimes do nothing.
You’re right, Kathleen. A-Rod looked renewed and refreshed after he had his 2 days off (or however many it was) last season. It wouldn’t hurt Tex to do the same. Plugging away day after day is noble, but there’s no shame in taking a break and it could be better for him than pressing and making things worse. Of course I know nothing about hitting, so I could be talking nonsense. LOL. And yeah, losing the extra pounds seems to have made Swisher more agile. Good for him!
If we’re hitting this weakly, Diane, then it may not be any different when we get to Baltimore. The Jays have pitched well, no question, but the swings being taken by the middle of the order especially have made me wince. So let’s go offense and let’s go Javy! We need this!
How did you know it was my agent who came for lunch yesterday, dbeitzel? Oh, wait. I have that stuff about her in my profile info. LOL. I forgot about that. Anyhow, she did come for lunch and we had a really nice time, and my attitude toward Hollywood after all these years is that I expect nothing but am always excited when a deal actually happens – and I’ve been very lucky on that score.
That’s it, Barbara. I keep forgetting. Of course Tex should be in counseling with you! Can’t you get him on the phone? Call Scott Boras. Yeah, right. Anyhow, I hear your frustration but maybe he’ll surprise us today and go 4-for-4.
Your Rangers are doing great, wetfeet. But I think I’ll hang on to Tex, as rough a time as he’s having. The Yankees haven’t had a great first baseman like him in years, so I’m willing to ride this out with him!
Sorry about the Dodgers last night, Emma. Seven runs in the seventh? Ugh. I remember going through angst over Torre’s bullpen decisions, but he always manages to get his teams into the postseason so fear not.
Teixeira is going to go on a TEAR sooner rather than later. It’s unavoidable.
