Why Is CC So Dominant At Yankee Stadium?

According to the Lohud Blog, the answer he gave is….”my wife’s cooking, maybe?”
Can you imagine Amber Sabathia’s food bills? Anyhow, CC is worth every pound because aces like him don’t come along every day. One hit? On a hot, steamy day in September? That’s just crazy good. And how about Granderson, who wasn’t even supposed to be in the lineup? One homer would have been a nice surprise, but two? Awesome. And how locked in is Posada at the moment? Which is another way of saying how lucky are the Yankees to have a 38-year-old catcher who is still one of the league’s best offensive players? I’m knocking on wood just thinking about it.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, I’m really hoping Earl will leave the Bronx alone and let me watch Ivan Nova and the boys beat the Blue Jays without getting soaked. I can’t wait to be back at the Stadium. (I’ll be in section 315, row 4, if anyone else is going and wants to say hi.) So tonight I’ll be doing an anti-rain dance. Help me out and do it with me. Please?

    Hey Jane:

I have a question for you. Every so often, you post a video on the blog that you made on xtranormal.com. I made a video, so how do I post it to where I want to? Thanks!

As far as the game, well, CC was just lights out. However, I had a dentist appt during the game. I listed to Sterling embarass himself on the ride down and back, but couldn’t see it in between. When I sat down on the chair, they said, “What do you want to watch?” I was caught off guard. Apparantly now they have TV streaming through a computer in EACH ROOM. I was so happy. .. Until I found out that they didn’t get above ch 60…. (YES is 67 by me). The weird thing was they had it on in the waiting room…. whatever. Sterling however… is a retard. Has anyone heard the Granderson homer call? How does Suzyn not crack up?

  2. Jane Heller

To post any kind of video, Christiaan, you copy the video’s embed code and paste it into your blog post. Very simple. I used to have fun with xtranormal until they started charging for each vid. How cool that your dentist has TV in each room (sorry about the YES network though). I’ve heard Sterling’s “Grandy Man Can” call, and while it’s certainly old-fashioned and corny, I’m not a fan of the word “retard” for anyone.

I really hope the weather doesn’t ruin your day tomorrow. That’s pretty bad luck on your part, but I’m hoping everything works out for you!
And I love CC’s line about his wife’s cooking. Well, I actually just love him as a whole. He’s incredible! I really wanted to see him go for the complete game, but I guess it made sense with a 5 run lead to let him take it easy. And it’s hard to believe Posada’s almost 40, isn’t it? He seriously looks SO young! And when he gets all fired up, he acts young too. He’s one of my favorite players, and I find that he’s very underappreciated.
Anyway, hope all goes well tomorrow. Watching Nova should be fun!

  4. Jane Heller

Thanks, Sarah. Hopefully the rain will hold off until the last pitch! I love CC too. He’s everything we’ve needed him to be and more. Maybe Nova was taking notes today and learning from our ace. He’ll need to be sharp against the big-hitting Jays.

Hi Jane & Fellow Baseball Fans:

Awwww Jane …I’ve been to 3 games this week (I’m on vacation). If I didn’t already have plans with my friend I would have gone tomorrow if only to say hi to you. Bummer … :o(

Anyway …I did go today and I posted it on Lohud but I’m so excited about it I’m posting it here too. I was never a big fan of Stubhub but I am now …LOL.

Today was my lucky day. Yesterday morning I decided to go to the today’s game. Couldn’t get anyone to go because they were working or going to school so I ordered a ticket for myself on Stubhub ..got a good deal …$14.00 (including the charges) for a $25.00 seat in the Infield Grandstand..section 415. Stubhub was having trouble sending me the ticket so late last night they asked if I would pick up at Will Call. I had no problem doing that. I went to the WC Window and the man said …”Wow …Stubhub must really like you”. He said they upgraded my ticket to a Legends Seat. I thought he was joking and laughed but THEY REALLY DID !!! I was in shock. The food is amazing and all free….it was like being at a Wedding with the carving boards and different food stations. After eating inside before the game they serve you anything on the menu at your seat …all game long. Like I said …this was DEFINITELY my lucky day …AND …the Yankees won 5-0 behind the great pitching of CC. The only downfall was the HEAT but I figured I could put up with it for something I most likely won’t ever experience again …not at $1,600 a seat ..lol. After today …I LOVE Stubhub !!!

As for CC…I am just loving him …he just does his thing with no fanfare. Goes out ..pitches and gets the job done. Sometimes it feels he’s actually overlooked with all the angst that goes on about the other players. I have to laugh…especially being close today …how small every other player looks when they go to the mound to talk to him. Nunez looked like his little kid when he patted him on the head after a play ..lol..

    Go Yankees 2010 !!

  6. seindsfeld@aol.com

Hopefully when I do the anti-rain dance that woman will fall out of the sky instead ;D What an amazing job by CC. After the game, I did get a little annoyed cause over the radio Michael Kay was on his show and his Met supporting co-host Don La Greca seemed to be giving every reason why CC shouldn’t win the Cy Young, but as long as he pitches like this I guess it doesn’t matter. But man, the Yanks have dominated the A’s this season. Did you hear about the stat he hasn’t lost a start at Yankee Stadium since the All Star Break….of ’09?? That tied him with Whitey Ford for something O.o It was also nice to see Jete get a hit, but I was freaked out when I saw Swisher get hurt cause I had put on my Swish shirt just the other day :O He seems okay though. Have a great time at the game 😀

It will be interesting to see if Ivan Nova can continue his early success in the major leagues! The 1 1/2 game lead is nice, but it would be good to make some more room at the top. CC was terrific today. I’d hate to think where we’d be without him. For as much trouble as the rotation has given us, CC has been solid.

  8. Jane Heller

Peggy! I cannot believe you got to sit in the Legends seats – for $14!!!!!!!! I’m speechless. If only you could figure out how to do it again, I’d fly back from CA next month. LOL. I guess the weekday day games are a problem, as far as filling the good seats. Today is sort of a holiday, or at least the beginning of one, so maybe they won’t have a problem. All I know I totally overpaid for MY ticket! Anyhow, really glad you were treated like royalty. You deserved it for all the games you’ve been to. Wish I was seeing you today though.

CC has been amazing, seindsfeld, and if it wins #20 it’ll be harder to argue against him for Cy Young. What a great signing for us. The only dampener was Swisher getting pulled. I really hope his leg gets better fast because he’s been so consistent for us.

I will be interesting to see how the Blue Jays react to Nova, having faced him that first time, Scott. He and Bautista now have “history,” but I hope he can just stay focused and pitch lights out. I want to see a win today!

Becky, I hope you stay safe in VA today. I read this morning that you guys have already gotten the wind and rain. Be careful!!!!

You must be so happy that Abs is back in the Bronx, John. He’s been your fave for months. Maybe he and Robertson can tackle the 8th inning? Or is that Joba’s job again? I can’t tell.

Thanks, Kathleen. I’ll be heading out to the game in a couple of hours. The sky is overcast but looks OK for now. Would love to see Grandy go deep again, but then I’d love to see all of them go deep. Maybe a blowout for us? Or is that too much to ask against the Jays?

  9. beckers46

WOW! Peggy3, it was your lucky day! So excited for you! CC dominated yesterday’s game. And Mr. Curtis G. had an awesome game as well. He also posted a comment I sent him on his myspace page. YAYYY!!! I sent it regarding umps a few weeks ago, but the comment also applied to the umps for this Oakland series. The umps are BLINDE! So Grandy acknowledged my post. Now, I need Joba, CC, and Swisher to acknowledge me on Twitter! ;0)
To everyone in Earl’s path, please be safe. I hope you’re all stocked up with supplies. It’s gloomy here in VA. We’re expecting heavy rain and winds. I have to open my store this morning. I will be playing the waiting game on when we’re going to close. Because during bad weather, it’s important that the outlet mall remain open. Geesh! I may have to row myself to work in a canoe. (My dad pronounces Robbie’s last name as “canoe”, lol!) Jane, hope you get to see the Yanks and Nova today! Have a good day, fans! – Becky :0)

  10. ooaooa

Yankees are obviously not happy when empty seats are dominate on TV. Good for you Peggy!
What a duo, CC and Johnathan Abs! Did you see the Riveraish intensity in Abbies eyes? Those two could get a gig as a wrestling tag team!

Enjoy today’s game! Hopefully its just windy, not rainy at the stadium. My husband and I were out and about yesterday, listening to the game on the radio. We found Sterling’s “Grandy Man” song funny! It’s just another Sterlingism. In fact, when we got home and saw Curtis’ 2nd homer, I began “singing” the song, too. Whatever helps, lets go for it! Life needs more fun!
Here’s a shout out to Nova. I love watching new talent, especially ours. Also, home run vibes to Grandy and Thames! And, a long distance hug to Jeter. Hopefully he breaks out of this slump, like today!

  12. mel.tmottbg@gmail.com

Great game and great work by CC. After Granderson hit the 2nd homer I thought that Kevin Long is really looking like a genius right now!

Yes, John Sterling can’t sing a lick and sometimes he’s silly, but I enjoy listening to him. I have mentioned that he sometimes gets details wrong in the last few years, but it just gets me worrying about him. Hope he is well.

As for the “r” word there is a movement to stop the use of this word. Spread the word to stop the word.

Wow, Peggy — you were so lucky! But you deserve it, being such a loyal and devoted fan. We have not been to a game so far this season — a first in like 15 years???

C.C. seemed to not have his hard fast ball working for him yesterday but he never lets anything stop him from having a successful outing. If its the food – go for it!!!

Jane, I am hoping the weather holds up for you. Pray for me too — we have tickets to The Jones Beach Theatre tonight to see Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald and Donald Fagan. They always say there are no rainouts at this concert venue but this being a hurricane and not just rain, maybe they will reschedule if the weather is as bad as predicted. Still, I’m hoping the storm will be gone and we can still get the concert in.

We need to take this series from Toronto here at home! GO YANKEES!!!

  14. Jane Heller

I’m with you on Kevin Long, Melissa. Whatever he did to tweak Granderson’s swing has been right on the money. John Sterling does get things wrong occasionally and his comments and calls get on some people’s nerves, but he’s the voice of the Yankees and it’s been that way for years. Thanks for the link for the “r” word.

I will definitely pray that you get your concert in, Diane. Sounds like a good one. That threesome was in Santa Barbara a few months ago and I’m sorry I didn’t get to see them. No rain for either of us please!

  15. peggy3

Hi Jane & Fellow Baseball Fans….

Thanks everyone …it reallly was an UNBELIEVABLE experience !!!!

Diane …the way I attend the games you are music loyalty …going to so many concerts and seeing such great entertainment. It seems every night you are getting to rock it out with someone or some group. As you never made it to a game …I never made it to one concert (the free ones) this summer… (sob, sob). Hopefully next year it will work out.

Last but definitely not least …have a great time at the game Jane. The sun is shining right now in Queens. I think they were saying that if we get rain it will be later today and tonight. I hope it holds off for you to stay dry and enjoy a terrific Yankee win. Seven in a row is the way to go …bring ’em luck Jane & Michael (along with some Cali sunshine too)…

    Go Yankees 2010 !!

  16. Jane Heller

Peggy, we’ve had absolutely no traffic this morning (I could have used that extra hour of sleep). Even the Deegan is moving. A good omen? I hope so!

  17. dschaub@gpo.gov

“The taxman’s taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
    Lazin’ on this sunny afternoon…
And I can’t sail my yacht
    He’s taken ev’rything I’ve got
    All I’ve got’s this sunny afternoon…”
I dunno…that old Kinks tune just seemed right today. It sure was for Peggy yesterday! What a great story…and what a greater experience!! Congrats again!!
The song popped into my head ’cause it made me think of both Jane and Michael. The sunshine and the boat stuff, not the taxman…he’s gonna get us all…but no matter…
In the meantime, let’s enjoy everything we can. Diane, I’m jealous again…I think they call themselves The Dukes of September…what a trio! They’re performing in northern Virginia soon, so let us all know how it goes…!
Hope hope that the weather, and young Mr. Nova, both hold up well. Wonder if the ball will carry way better, or way worse? Well, as long as it carries better in the bottom of every inning, that works for me…have a GREAT weekend!

  18. raysrenegade

Just like Dorothy, maybe CC believes that “there is no place like home” before he clicks his cleats three times and finds himself back on the mound in Yankee Stadium.
But that is the place you are suppose to win. The place where the field’s dimensions do not change, and the mound stays the same for 81 games.
Sure the aspect of sleeping on your own bed and having your loved ones near is also a pleasant and secure feeling, but familiarity breeds success.
But then again, it is a godsend that at a time some in the Yankee’s rotation forgot their way…CC always knows the way home.

My guess, Paul, is that Girardi yanked him to 1) give him a breather on a hot day or 2) get the newly called up Albaladejo some work.

Your anti-rain dance worked, A.J. We only had a few sprinkles.

Thanks for the song, Dave. The weather and Nova were just fine and dandy!

It’s 100 in SoCal, Emma? Wow. Not sorry to be missing that.

Hope Earl hasn’t ruined your weekend plans, Jenn. He hasn’t hit the Bronx, that’s for sure.

CC and Dorothy, Renegade. Talk about an odd couple but I do get your point. No place like home.
