Another Sweaty Night

But despite the heat in Kansas City, the big man didn’t seem to lose velocity or command. Why Girardi didn’t let him finish out the ninth for the complete game beats me, but D-Rob recovered from a shaky start to get the save – and save my sanity. I’d been coasting along, thinking the Yanks were well on their way to victory and didn’t expect any late drama. Silly me, especially after the last couple of sweaty nights in Texas.
Whatever Kevin Long did to tweak Granderson’s swing clearly worked. And Swisher, Jeter and Austin Kearns – yes, Austin Kearns – had their hitting shoes on.
Speaking of shoes, I have more packing to do for my Jet Blue flight to JFK early tomorrow morning, so I’ll cut this short and say I hope I don’t run into any cursing flight attendants.
I won’t be posting an entry after Friday night’s game, but feel free to chime in about anything exciting that happens and I’ll respond to comments on Saturday. Take care, everybody!

Looks like these new guys are starting to feel a little more comfortable, huh? They had their prints all over that Texas win, and tonight (yesterday?) Kearns’ home run ended up being the difference. I still don’t feel totally comfortable with Wood going more than one inning, but I feel a whole helluva lot less panicky than when Park was in there. Hopefully Girardi will have him go one inning at a time once Ace comes back. (But what’s the deal with Girardi loving that two inning deal anyway? It seems to work for Aceves, but maybe it’s not the most ideal thing with some of these other guys…)

Enjoy your flight! Have a good time in NY! Might you be partaking a Yankee home game…? Maybe I’ll see you Monday against the Tigers!

Just finished a post about the
Rays having to find their evil, mean and nasty gene for the fianl 48 games they way the Yankees always seem to boost up and get their minds straight in this stretch of the season.
That is one thing that sticks out to me about the Yankee persona, they always seem to put their feet on their opponents necks this time of year and twist. That is something my team lacks at time, and could be a big factor in the end.

We have the Royals in the last 4 games of the season in October….always fun in the K C heat of Summer.

Have a great trip, Jane! We’ve had a beautiful summer here in the northeast – I hope it continues for your visit.

  4. beckers46

CC should have completed that game. And what happened with Houdini? It got scary there for a second. Glad the Yanks were able to win.
Congrats on your book being optioned, Jane! I’ll keep my fingers crossed on the adaption. If A-rod and Cammie D are still an item, do you think he’d come to the premiere. Hmmmm…food for thought. I can picture you and A-Rod hanging out on the red carpet now. 😀
Have fun in NY. Have a great day fans!!! – Becky

  5. Jane Heller

I feel the same way about the new guys, YankeeCase. They do seem more comfortable this week, especially Kearns. I enjoyed watching his post-game interview with Kim Jones. He seemed like a reluctant “star,” a little shy about being in the spotlight. Enjoy the game on Monday night. I won’t be at that one but am thinking about going on Thursday. We’ll see!

You get the Royals in KC for your last series, Renegade? We get the Red Sox at Fenway. Not fair!!!! Seriously, I hope you’re right about the Yankees’ ability to close the deal. I think the mentality is there, but there’s always the question of health. Will everybody stay healthy for the stretch run? Who knows?

Thanks, Audrey. I just checked the forecast and it said thunderstorms every day next week. UGHHHHH!

I agree about CC finishing the game, Becky. He was almost there. Why not let him go the distance? And D-Rob was scary, not his usual lights out. But a win is a win, and I was relieved to get it. If the movie ever gets made (I’m always hopeful but realistic) and if Cameron and A-Rod are still an item (very doubtful), you bet he’ll be at the premiere and I’ll be hanging all over him.

Thanks, John. I’ll tell her tonight when I walk in the door!

LOL, Jeff. Seems to me the Jet Blue personnel will either be extra nice to the passengers, to make up for the other day, or really grumpy, because they all wish they could bolt with a couple of beers. Will know soon enough.

Oh-kay…allow me to echo fellow bloggers, Jane, and wish that youse guys have a nice quiet flight (with decent wine!) and not TOO stormy of a week — to Audrey in Vermont, it may have been a beautiful summer up your way, but it’s been Hotter than the Hinges of Hades down yonder, with ferocious T-storms/floods/power outages as our only break, so to speak — ‘fraid that She-Fan may get some o’that…
And of course, do give a big hug & smooch to Yer Mum for us (I plan to do the same for Me Mum in two weeks)….!
Last nite, ’twas interesting. Went to Nats Park to see Nats-Marlins (and get a free DVD of Strasburg’s 1st start) — it rained cats & dogs for two hours, didn’t start ’til 9pm — found out it ain’t easy to follow Our Bombers on the Nats’ scoreboard, but when I left it was 4-1, all seemingly under control…ain’t making that ***-umption again!! Still, a win’s a win, and so great to get Team Contributions…

Hi Jane & Fellow Baseball Fans…

Jane & Michael …safe and UNEVENTFUL flight to the Big Apple. I don’t think it’s fair that I have flown JetBlue many times and never was treated to a ride on the slide …(I guess I should be saying …”thank GOD I never had to ride the slide !!!). I usually fly JetBlue but when I went to LA this year I got a terrific price on Virgin America …almost $200 less than JetBlue wanted and I must say …loved it. Similiar to JetBlue with comfy leather seats and leg space, personal TV screens and you just had to touch the screen as to what you wanted and the flight attendants were there in a sec with your order (very NICE flight attendants I may add). I’ll be looking into Virgin America for any future flights..that’s for sure.

As for the game …did turn into a nailbiter at the end but I had every confidence DRob would get that last out. How does a guy as big as CC pitch in heat like that ??? Boston losing, no game for Tampa, a Yankee win makes it a grand night for me. Speaking of grand …what magic is Klong weaving ?? Grandy had a good night at the plate after
his “tweaking” sessions. Hopefully it continues on for
the rest of the season. Also nice to see Swish back again because he looked lost for a few days. Welcome back
Daddy Tex …nice play diving to lst last night. I like Berkman as a DH but I was happy Tex was back playing the bag last night.

A sweep in KC would be nice ..then bring on Detroit and Johnny D. Hope Week returns too and last year while Hope Week was occurring the Yankees won every game …let’s “hope” that happens this time too … :o)

Have a great weekend all ….maybe see you at the Stadium Jane …

    Go Yankees 2010 !!!

  8. Jane Heller

Sounds like an ordeal at the Nats game with all that rain, Dave. I hope the DVD was worth it. Will give my mom your best and pray my flight doesn’t hit too much turbulence from the T-storms in the area. It can rain all it wants to once I’m on the ground tonight!

Peggy, we fly out of Burbank, not LAX, when we go to NY ( easier and closer), so Virgin America isn’t available to us. I heard it’s great though. I like Jet Blue because of the TVs. When I get tired of ESPN, I switch over to the Food Network. As for our Yanks, I never think sweep (too superstitious), but it would sure be sweet. Will let you know if we make a trip to the Bronx next week.

  9. peggy3

    Paul …

Bloomquist is batting near .350 against CC and already had two hits off him last night. I didn’t have a problem with Joe G. bringing in DRob …he’s been terrific this year. He did put a little scare into me but I really felt he was going to get out of the inning giving CC his 15th win of the season.. and…HE DID !!! :o)

Jane …That’s my favorite thing about JetBlue …the private TV’s. That’s why I liked Virgin America …even NICER TV’s. All touch screen. The jet I flew on must have been brand new because it didn’t have a mark anywhere to be found was sparkling…so clean. We also arrived in LA 35 minutes earlier than we were suppose to. All in all ..very enjoyable.

    Go Yankees 2010 !!!

Have a great flight and welcome back to NY State! Both new daddies did well last night – hopefully CC and Tex are able to get some sleep away from home. Can’t you just see in 2 -3 years little Sabathia and little Tex playing in the club house? They will be sooo adorable!!
Enjoy your time with Momma She-Fan and Go Yankees!

  11. Jane Heller

Paul, I would have let CC try to finish it out, but Joe goes by his “book” and sometimes it works, other times not so much.

Virgin America sounds nice from everything I’ve heard, Peggy. Richard Branson always makes his projects top of the line. But I much prefer Burbank and Long Beach airports when I fly. LAX is impossible for parking and navigating while the two smaller airports are like air strips from the fifties. I’m here waiting for the flight early because security, etc were a breeze.

Thanks, Kathleen. Yes, family day will be extra cute with the two new superstar babies running around!

  12. peggy3

Well ..after I hit the Lottery ..I’m going to book a ride on Branson’s space shuttle…Virgin Galactic. Tickets cost $200,000 and deposits start from $20,000. Anyone care to join me???
:o). Truth of the matter is the fact I can’t believe after all the sci-fi shows I watched many moons ago when I was a child …space travel to the public is becoming a reality as long as you can afford it …which I can’t !!! Besides ..if I couldn’t get the Yankee games I’m not going … lol.

    Go Yankees 2010 !!

  13. Jane Heller

Peggy, I think I’ll skip the space shuttle. I just landed at JFK and the five hours I just spent in the air were enough for me! What a pleasure to enter the terminal and see the Yankee game on all the TVs. Yay!

Thanks, Mike. It’s great to be here. Beautiful night!

  14. travelingbballbabes

How long are you in the New York area?! I don’t suppose we could talk you into paying a visit to Citi Field to see the Phillies take on the Mets for Lisa’s birthday tomorrow, could we? ; )

  15. Jane Heller

Aw, Serena. I wish I could join you guys for Lisa’s birthday! I’ll be in Westchester visiting my mom tomorrow before heading up to CT on Sunday. But a Yankee game might be in my future next week.

Hi Jane, I will be at Yankee Stadium this week, Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon when the Tigers are in town. Hope we can connect (seats for both games are in Section 420C Row 9, seat 24). It’ll be my first time in the new Yankee Stadium so am planning to arrive early and check everything out!

  17. Jane Heller

Thanks, Peter. Got in last night – Jet Blue was great; we were a half hour early landing – but then there was a six car accident on the Whitestone Bridge and a one hour drive to my mother’s ended up taking two. Ah, New York.

Hey, jes14850. Very cool that you’re going to the Stadium for the first time! You’ll love it. I’m hoping to go on Thursday. Will decide on Monday. Thanks for your seat info!
