Why are you frowning in your official Yankees photo?
Why have you taken the 8th inning role you were handed and done nothing with it?
Why did you ruin Javy Vazquez’s fantastic performance against the Mariners tonight?
Why couldn’t you hold a one-run lead?
Why did you give King Felix the opportunity to celebrate on the mound?
Why did you make me so mad I almost broke my non-3D TV?
While it’s true that the offense was anemic, except for Nick Swisher’s lonely little homer, that the home plate umpire made a couple of atrocious calls, and that the Yankees can’t win every game they play, I’m pinning this loss directly on you. Thanks.

The Yanks should have offered the Worlds worst setup man to the Mariners and maybe they would have landed Cliff Lee. Not that we won’t in free agency. I am so tired of that over-hyped pitcher ruining possible Yankees wins. By the way, love the blog.

I got a note earlier that they were working on the problem so I was able to post my entry. After the Dodger game I headed to Pepperdine for the Steve Garvey softball game. among the celebs baseball legends at the softball game was Pete Rose, Jose Canceco and many more. It was alot of fun. Yep, I’ve been busy and back to volunteering tomor… I mean today.

This game had a terrible ending! Javy should sue for run and relief support. I don’t know what to do with Joba. When he comes in now I expect the worst. He’s turned into Kyle Farnsworth before my very eyes. I mean, look at his freaking E.R.A.! I would send him down to the minors and try to build him up again. He can not be the 8th inning guy anymore. I don’t want to see him in there against the Rays or the Sox with the playoffs on the line. My calendar tells me that 2007 was three years ago. The legend of Joba is just that. Sorry for the rant but this shite is crazy!

Anybody know Dr. Emmet Brown’s number? I wanna go back in time and veto the Curtis Granderson trade. We could have AJax in center and Phil Coke in the bullpen right now. Ian Kennedy was no great loss, just a solid 4 or 5 guy most likely (time will tell on that one, too) but he could have made the team as a reliever the way Phil and Joba did in the past. If anything kills the Bombers chances at repeating, it’s going to be the bullpen.
Seriously, why is no one talking about this? Imagine the future of having Gardner and Ajax batting 1 and 2 and a great lefty setup man in Phil Coke? They seriously overpaid on that trade.
What is with Joba? He has the tools but he just can’t do it. I had a very busy day so I was pretty tired when it came to game time. I passed out in the 8th inning and came to just in time to see Joba blow the game. Did he load the bases as well or did he come in with runners on? Either way, we need to be able to depend on him or he’s got to go.
Hopefully this afternoon’s game will help us go into the All-Star break on a high note. I think it so cool that Swish is going to take part in the HR Derby. And for all of us Yankee-adicts, what are we going to do during the break??!!!

Mr. Sheppard came up with the Yankees in 1951 …two other important events happened that year …Mickey Mantle made his rookie debut and I was born. Mr. Sheppard was a devout catholic and also a lector at his church. Can you imagine how that voice sounded in a much smaller space than Yankee Stadium? This is definitely a sad day for DJ. He still uses Mr. Sheppard’s recording to announce him at the plate and will till the day ge retires. Nice tribute by DJ.
There will never be another voice like Mr. Sheppards…

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Sheppard at the old stadium; he was a wonderful man and I have heard people talk about how he spoke at church. What a terrible loss to all The Yankees and their fans. You are right, Peggy, this is going to hit Jeet hard but he will certainly keep his announcement for each at bat. Rest in peace, Bob Sheppard.
Finding the good in bad… Joba managed to do it in style, not just some bllop into center field to give up the lead, not some hard hit liner down the 3rd baseline… no… style… grand slammy….

After hours of discussions and manipulation I have cleared roster space with the Trenton Thunder for Joba to join them ASAP. This is where he belongs–RIGHT NOW! He needs to get knocked down a few reality pegs. I stayed up and listened to that abortionary performance. The disgust in Sterlings voice was evident. Jonathan Abs you’re going to get a chance–soon I hope.
RIP Bob Sheppard you have been and will be missed.
I doubt that Joba would have been attractive to the Mariners, spazgoesyard. He was trade bait back when the Twins had Santana on the market a few years ago, but I don’t know if teams have asked for him lately. And getting Cliff Lee wouldn’t have solved our bullpen problems (I’m not in favor of moving Hughes back to the set up role since he’s been so good as a starter). Not sure what to make of his troubles, but I’m glad you like the blog!

Poor Javy, Len. He really deserved to win that game, especially after Girardi let him stay out there in the 7th to get out of his own jam. Good job by both the manager showing confidence in his pitcher and the pitcher showing he had the fire to get it done. All that made Joba’s meltdown that much more aggravating. No problem on the rant. That’s what blogs are for.
You have sympathy for Joba, Paul, because….If you’re going to say the Yankees ruined him with The Rules, I’m not listening.
Paulie, Phil Coke gave up homer after homer and wasn’t as reliable as you remember. And AJax? Yeah, it would have been great to keep him and watch him mature. But I was all for the Granderson trade. Curtis was a premium player with all the right tools – very hard to pass up a guy like that, especially after the Yankees had decided not to up their price for Damon. He’s not having a great year, granted, but I expect him to do big things with the Yankees down the road. And Ian Kennedy? He couldn’t get anybody out! Can’t agree with you on that one.
Diane, you came to just in time to see Joba? That’s tragic! lol. Yes, he loaded the bases. He didn’t inherit them. He started the 8th and made a mess of it. What are we going to do during the All Star break? Good question. We’ll have to think of something!
Woke up to read the news about Bob Sheppard, Peggy, and just posted my RIP entry. What can you say? He was indeed the Voice of God and we’ve all missed him being there. It was at the end of 2007 while I was following the Yanks around for the book that I arrived at the Stadium for a game and learned that he was sick and wouldn’t be coming back for the rest of the season. I figured then that the end was near. Sad day for all of us.

Yeah, Peter, if you’re gonna have a bad inning you might as well give up a grand slam. And the awful part is that anyone watching the game could see it coming a mile away.
Well, John, I don’t know if Joba needs a demotion to Trenton, but clearly Dave Eiland has his work cut out for him. The problem is his inconsistency. He’s had outings where he’s done just fine. He just can’t seem to locate with any regularity, and it’s so frustrating! Not sure Johnny Abs is the answer, but I’m willing to give him a try. I’d give Robertson a shot at the 8th inning first.
Yesterday afternoon I got into a discussion where with someone who thinks we should trade Joba and get some prospects for him while he still has a good reputation. I said no, he’s talented, look at what he can do when he’s pitching well, etc. etc. Then this happens. Thanks for making me look like an idiot Joba!

Nutballgazette, I don’t know if Joba’s problems are in his head. It’s possible. But there are other possibilities: like #1) he’s not as good as we thought and #2) he’s injured.
