Tonight’s Loss To The Mets In A Nutshell
* The Yankees left 13 men on base and were 3-for-14 with RISP.
* Mark Teixeira is killing us with the bat, although he’s still a genius with the glove.
* Jeter isn’t a very impressive leadoff guy right now.
* Randy Winn is about as good a left fielder as I am.
* Kevin Russo, a call-up from Triple A, is our hottest hitter.
* Phil Hughes wasn’t sharp, but three runs shouldn’t have been insurmountable.
* Chan Ho Park isn’t getting people out.
* I miss Damon and Matsui.
* I sound like a yapping dog, but I can’t help it.

Amen, sister Jane! Who are these strange men in Yankee uniforms? Outdistanced by the Mets???? Made even more painful by the McCarver and Buck inane comments. Very painful evening.

Considering it is your crosstown rivals, I thought they guys would come out like gangbusters taking the wood to the Mets pitching staff that has not been especially good this year.
Glad to see the help from Triple-A had made an immediate impact on your line-up. And your secondary run producer has seen the termites hit is bat collection and produce a few huge Swiss cheese size knotholes in the lumber.
I would expect Yankee Manager Joe G to do something to shuffle the mindset or even the line-up on Sunday to give some added motivation.
Maybe have CC Sabathia lead off the game and really have the talking heads in the Press Box besides themselves.

i used to dream that i was in the upper deck and was called out by the pa announcer to come down and play the outfield but if i’m needed more in the bullpen i am up for the challenge. i see our triple A team is doing well. it is a shame there is nobody there who can join me in the bullpen and play outfield but i guess with jane there we are all covered. melissa, are you joining the team too or just providing the inspiration before and during games while you sneak into the clubhouse?
if we win tonight we still won the series and i’m counting on doc to take care of the sox

Your synopsis is correct, Jane. Although I don’t really miss Damon and Matsui at this point. We had almost the same number of hits as The Mets last night – we just couldn’t put them together sufficiently to score enough runs. Other than Russo and a couple of great defensive plays I could not take anything positive from that game. Weather is threatening; I’m not sure if they will get tonight’s game in — I know its all about the money for the stations broadcasting these games but I really don’t see why both Saturday and Sunday had to be night games. Ah well.
By the way, I did go to Borders Books yesterday and got to meet Tommy James — Tommy James and the Shondells — he did not perform but he spoke about the book he is selling — “Me, The Mob and the Music” and there was a very interesting Q & A session with Tommy James and his co-author, Martin Fitzpatrick. They are making a movie from this book — Val Kilmer is going to portray Tommy James. They also just learned that they are talking to Robert DeNiro to play the role of the Mafia leader who ran the record company that signed his group. Then there’s going to be a Broadway musical as well.
Afterwards they signed books and spoke with us 1 on 1 and both of them are big Yankees fans. We may have spoken more about the Yankess than we did about music or books. It was very cool.
I was spared from having to listen to Buck and McCarver, jes14850. Since I’m in CA and Fox was showing the Dodgers game, I was blacked out of Yankees-Mets (AAAAARRRGHHH) and had to watch on the Spanish Fox station for the video and listen to Sterling/Waldman for the audio, which was on such a delay that they were two pitches behind what was on my TV. I have to say it was a miserable way to watch a game, but I got used to it eventually. Better than nothing.

I would expect Girardi to do some shuffling of the lineup too, Renegade, but with all the injuries I’m not sure how much leeway he has. I guess he could give Tex the day off and use Miranda at first. And he could put Gardner in the leadoff spot and bat Jeter second. Maybe you’re right though and CC should lead off. He’s a good hitter!
I wouldn’t trust me in left field, Melissa. I’d make more errors than Winn and Thames combined. Plus I’d break my nails. LOL. Love the “Moonstruck” idea. Maybe Joe should just walk around the clubhouse slapping every player in the face.
Kmgtcasey, I think it’s interesting that the Post analyzed A-Rod’s women and their impact on his game. I was writing my She-Fan book in 2007 and following the team, and I remember being in Toronto when the stripper story broke. A-Rod was having a tremendous year when he was with her. BUT I’d rather see the team do well like last year, so I vote for him to get back with Kate Hudson.
Doc is pitching against the Sox tonight, Barbara? Maybe he’ll flirt with a no-no just like Dice K and return the favor. I’d love to see you in the bullpen. You could replace Chan No or Boone’s Farm. LOL.
Definitely come off the bench and hit a walk-off, Melissa. Be the hero and get the pie. But I’d rather have a blowout tonight – a nice, relaxing game where we actually get off to a big lead and hold onto it.
Diane, Damon and Matsui were great in the clutch, which is the kind of hitting we’re not getting. I do miss Damon especially, not for his defense, obviously, but for his ability to hit in the #2 spot, with two strikes and two outs, and make something happen. He also had power – something we’re lacking right now. Our lineup was more formidable with those two in it. Bad news about the weather. I do hope they get the game in, but not if it’ll be start and stop because then we’ll lose CC. So Tommy James is a Yankee fan? I love that you spent time talking to him about the team. HAHA! Sounds like fun.

That’s pretty much all I’ve got to say. The whole line-up, top to bottom, seems to be missing the electricity and fire that was there a few weeks ago. I can’t explain exactly what I mean, but it seems like right now the boys are just going through the motions – and not doing a very good job of it at that. Somebody needs to check Jeter’s pulse & get AJ, Swish & Robbie laughing again. They’re not having fun…they’re not getting angry… they’re not really doing anything. It’s definitely time to shake things up in the clubhouse and wake everyone up out of their stupor!
I hear that sigh, juliet93, and I echo it. Maybe Girardi will get tossed from tonight’s game. The Yankees always win when he does that. It must fire them up. He needs to do something besides say, “They’re getting good swings.” They need fire!

I don’t like FOX games because that means to Vin Scully at the stadium. Wish he would have been there. Sparky Anderson was there since his Tigers are in town. Maybe he will come back again today. Take a look at the picture of Sparky, Torre and Leyland.

I’m surprised Damon didn’t go 5-for-5 since I’ve been talking about him so much lately, Emma. I’m sure I’m glorifying him because he’s no longer a Yankee, but I do think he provided us with a powerful, consistent #2 in the lineup. Fun to have Sparky there yesterday, I’ll bet. I miss the fun-loving team of last year. I didn’t see it when we were winning early and I certainly don’t see it now. The only excitement I get these days is watching the young guys do well. Miranda and Russo have provided crucial hits and Francisco Cervelli is everything. I love that kid! I just miss the enthusiasm that the Yankees took into every single game last year.
I have to wonder if injury, on top of injury, on top of injury . . . has made it difficult to be enthusiastic. Think of how hard it is on us, and we’re not on the team.
Hopefully, they’ll get healthy and we’ll see some more fun. I miss it also

Don’t forget Javier is our best pitcher right now. CC did a great job too, but the bullpen didn’t decide to show up that day. Maybe he left them with the check at a restaurant. Late at night we should steal Damon, Matsui and Melky. Hey, we have guys to give away. Chan Ho, Johnson….that’s all that comes to mind, but I’m sure there’s more. Didn’t I say a month ago Jeter would start pressing because there’s not a secure #2 hitter? At any rate, no reason to get concerned until All Star break. But if Teix still isn’t hitting by then well, maybe its time to bench him for a game??
There is a Matsui that is walking around without a job, but it’s of the Kaz variety.
Hey…how about a pitcher named Roy Oswalt?? We sure could use some prospects here in H-Town. It’s time to try and turn this thing around.

Part of what’s missing, pennylane, are the walkoffs. They provided the spark and playfulness that led to a certain confidence that the team could always come back. Often it came down to Melky at the bottom of the order. Now we have Winn in that slot and it’s not the same. That said, winning is what will make this team look like they’re having more fun. The smiles will be back.
I think you’re right, Melissa. The injuries have to take their toll and cause the healthy players to press more and the pitchers to try and be perfect. There has to be a domino effect.
You did say Jeter would be pressing without a bona fide #2 hitter behind him, seindsfeld. But as you say we’ll know more about the character of this team at the All Star break. The Yanks have always been a second half team, so I expect good things from then on.

Since there’s no DH in interleague I haven’t seen matsui in awhile but when he is in the lineup he’s been doing well for us. He’s kind of in a mini slump so maybe it’s good that he’s getting some rest.

Javy was doing great before he hurt his finger, Mimi. The injury isn’t serious, but I haven’t heard yet whether he’ll miss his next start. Matsui is kind of a streaky hitter, so when he’s out of his mini-slump, look out. He’ll get hot and stay hot.

I’m trying not to freak out, Brian. I know it’s May, but it’s tough to watch the team struggle in every way. The good thing about slumps is that they don’t last forever. At least I hope they don’t.
You’re still top 5 in the league. Better than say…oh 17th, or something like that. Just picked that number randomly.
