i hope i lose since i don’t want andy to give up 4 runs. i’ll be there! so excited. bringing my good camera even…

  2. Jane Heller

Mike, you’ll be there? Lucky lucky you! Can’t wait to see your pics. Make sure to take one – a closeup, please – of Mo. And Granderson. And A-Rod. And Jeter. And —– I think you get where this is going. lol.

Ahh, this contest is making me even more nervous and excited than usual. Plus, yeah, the giving out of the rings, with Matsui there! Will there be any other contests this season? Sorry if this has been asked a bunch of times. Can’t wait šŸ˜€

well i still can’t believe that the angels are going against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium on the Yankees’ opening day/ring ceremony. *GULP*

May this be a great series! (Well the angels have been losing quite a lot lately so I dunno how they will do but hopefully our pitching will get better soon!).

Best of luck to the Yankees! I think i’ll be secretly cheering for Granderson heh heh šŸ˜‰

I know that our guys have done well with the first road trip but it never feels like the season has actually begun until the home opener. Andy, Jeter, Mariano and Jorge are half-way to the goal of reaching Yogi’s ring count. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I know several people who are lucky enough to have tickets to today’s game and everyone is very excited. I have to think that the newer Yankees will get a real hunger to win the World Series when they witness this ring ceremony. I LOVE watching Granderson being interviewed – he is so well-spoken and interesting. Thanks for the cookie contest roll call, Jane – we’ll see who wins.

I’ll have gameday on at work today. A poor substitute for actually watching it, but better then nothing. I am happy Matsui will be there to get his ring. I hope he doesn’t make us miss him today.

Let’s hope today’s opening day goes better then last years!

Interesting how the multitudes see the outcome… just 1 predicted shut out… then after 4 runs no x-1 wins for either team… numbers can be awesome at times…

Seindsfeld, I have contests if companies come to me and have a suitable product they want to give away. Last year, before you joined the party, I had a contest for a Flip Video Camcorder where people had to send me a pic of themselves being a fan. That was great. Will definitely do more. Meanwhile, Go Yanks!

I think it’s an amazing coincidence that the Angels will be there, Mimi, so that Matsui can get his ring. I mean, what are the chances, right? Should be a good game.

It does feel like the season is starting today, Diane. And several people who comment here will be at the game (lucky them), so I hope they’ll report back later or tomorrow with some good stories. I’m trying to picture guys like A-Rod and Tex who’ve never gotten rings. I bet their faces will light up.

I hope Matsui doesn’t make us miss him too, cheshirecat. But I also hope he gets a standing ovation from the crowd when he gets his ring. Yeah, Gameday is better than nothing. I’ll have the game on TV and will try to work and watch at the same time (yeah, sure).

Aren’t the scores interesting, Peter? Compiling them all was like working on a math paper (ugh), but in the end it was fun to see how many predicted close games of various scores, as opposed to blowouts for either side.

Only 10% chance of rain, Melissa? That’s better than LoHud’s 20% so I’ll take it. Even if there’s a sprinkle or two (and Andy had his share this spring), nothing will dampen this day!

Yeah, jojovanb was one of the few who predicted a blowout, Jeff. (Btw, jojo was his dog, but a band sounds right.)

Well, well…nice to be able to get back on here! For some reason, my worthless home computer was once again blocked out of accessing your blog all weekend, including Monday, with that weird blue & white “this is a test” junk ‘n’ jive…but I digress…
Nice to start the season like this, esp. to see so much of Da Bombers, not having YES or MLB or any such toyz…but winning 4 outa 6 on the road against THOSE teams…sweet!!
And now, back home…so many distractions tonite, I’m not too optimistic (well, am I ever?)…but at least a few of the Faithful Bloggers will be there, in da flesh, to root root root…!
One last comment — okay, She-Fan — fess up — inquiring minds will want to know — after the game and the contest are over, we wanna know what YOUR prediction for tonite’s hardball would have been — so lock it in now, and tell us later!!!

  11. Jane Heller

Dave, so sorry you were having trouble accessing the blog this weekend and yesterday. I wonder why. There had been a problem a week ago, but it’s been fixed. Maybe you needed to refresh your page? Do you access the blog through the URL here or via my web site? My prediction for the game today? Since I’m so bad at numbers and never win anything, not even a dumb centerpiece at a luncheon, I haven’t even thought about it. But maybe I’d go with 5-4 Yankees. A close game, in any case.

Oh, I wish you had entered, diamondgirl. Yes, we’re giving away a tin of cookies – maybe more than one, judging by the multiple predictions for the same scores – but it’s always nice to see you here. Hope all’s good in your world.

  12. James Buxton

So many scores, and so many exitment.. I’m with Melissa and Diane, It’s only Yankees Baseball until it’s played in home.
Good luck to all in the contest, hope it`s a blowout even if I don’t win. And Jane, thank you so much for the cookies contest, and for your blog.

  13. dschaub@gpo.gov

Jane, it’s surely my rotten, worthless, no @$%@@#%-good computer — something weird about the pop-up blocker seems to restrict access to almost everything — sayy, wouldn’t that be a cool position or situation in beisbol? Pop-Up Blocker? But would it be offensive or defensive…??
And, well, thanx for your prediction…that’s what I get for asking…either Great Minds Think Alike, or you’ve jinxed me…because that was MY score prediction! No matter — a W by any other score is still a W, and that’s all I want!!

    Jane,
Let me be one of the first to throw my congrats your way on securing another Top Spot in the Latest Leaders List.
Your writing and your unique sense of humor definitely fit like a glove on this site.
As I stated before in a Twitter post, “Chris” from the “Bleacher Creatures” sat behind me at Saturday Afternoons Rays/Yankee funfest. If you can believe it, he invited a Rays fan to come sit with them in the second row…..might have to get a Jet Blue ticket and just do that…..See Rays and Yankees can live together…except in October.
Congrats again on retaining your top spot!

You’re welcome, James. The blog is only as good as the commenters and I’m really glad you joined the party. Go Yanks! The game is about to begin!

Did I pick the same score as you, Dave? I didn’t even check before I blurted out my prediction. I guess great minds think alike. LOL.

Predicting a home win is excellent, Randy. You got your win. Now the Yankees need to get theirs!

Thanks for letting me know, Renegade. I’m flattered that people take the time to visit the blog. So you’ve made friends with the enemy, huh? Pretty cool the way baseball brings people together.

I’m psyched, Mike. Watching the start of the game right now!

  16. jojovanb27@hotmail.com

    Hi Jane,

Just getting back to earth after marrying off my daughter this weekend. When I started typing this mlb.com told me the Yanks were up 3-0 and I’ll catch an inning or so in a few minutes, while driving to umpire a high school softball game.

I’m still hoping for that blowout, but I’m prepared to order a couple of tins of cookies no matter what the final score is.

    Go Yanks!

  17. Jane Heller

Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding! Very exciting for a dad. Yanks are still up 3-0 in the 6th with two men on!

  18. Jane Heller

Sorry you didn’t win the cookies, Austin. It’s 5-0 Yanks at the moment….But let’s see if somebody did come up with the right score. Not over yet.

  19. seindsfeld@aol.com

Congrats to the three winners, but aren’t we all winners since the Yankees won the home opener? (just kidding, i’m very jealous) 5-2!

  20. rrrt

Damn! I was only off by one run. Anyway, I guess it’s only appropriate that some Yankees fans win the Yankee cookies due to the Yankees’ win. Well, at least two of the three – not sure who djfarenheit roots for, but the other two are definitely Yankees fans. Though, if I’d won, I still would have eaten them and enjoyed them. Hey winners, let us know how they taste!

  21. Jane Heller

Yes, we have three winners, seindsfeld! Sorry you didn’t guess the score (neither did I), but you’re so right – we all won because our boys did.

  22. seindsfeld@aol.com

What score did you guess Jane? And you know, you did sort of predict it a bit…”Will the Yanks beat the Angels 7-5?” freaky :O

  23. matthew@matthewarnoldstern.com

I didn’t win (nor did the Halos), but at least one of our guys got a nice new ring. The Yankees and the fans were very classy about it too.

  24. Jane Heller

You were only off by a run, Sue, it’s true. I was watching the game and was sure nobody would win when it was 5-0. So, while I wasn’t crazy about Abreu’s grand slam, at least it made the score winnable for people in the contest!

Yeah, I’m really upset that your prediction didn’t take the prize, Austin. LOL. And yes, the score did end up being closer than it was supposed to be. Drama at the end there.

Congratulations, Virginia!!!!! I just sent you an official email confirming your prize. Do you read fortunes? Maybe there’s a future in it for you. šŸ™‚

See my comment above to Dave, seindsfeld. He asked me for a prediction and I said 5-4. But you’re totally right about the original post for the contest when I wrote 7-5. That is sooo freaky!

That’s a lot of hate, werthbaby. Yes, the Yanks won today.

The crowd gave Matsui a fantastic ovation, matthew. So did everybody on the Yankees…as they should. He was a huge part of their success and such a professional. He deserved his ring – an understatement.
