Just A Quick Thanks

I’m beat from a long day in the city, my signing and the Yanks-Nats game, so I’ll be brief and write a longer post tomorrow before my flight back to California – complete with my impressions of the new stadium, the game itself, etc.

In the meantime, how cool to have so many fellow bloggers and readers show up both at Stan’s and at my seat at the game. It was a thrill to put the faces with the names I’ve been seeing for so long. I know how busy people are, so I was very flattered and grateful they made time to come and say hi.
So to the following…..my deep appreciation:
Lisa and Jon of Subway Squawkers.
Alex of River Avenue.
And Cheshirecat, Peggy and Ladyjane – all frequent commenters on this blog.
What a thrill for me to meet all of you and to realize yet again how baseball has brought such terrific people into my life.
More tomorrow.

That was great. I miss going to Yankee Stadium living in Florida now. The thunderstorms here are crazy. I almost missed the end of the game when a lightning strike knocked out my electricity for a few minutes. By the time the cable box powered up again I thought I would see the Good Night plastered on the screen with the peppy music playing. Instead it was Cano hitting into the double play! Damn. Good luck on your flight back Jane!!

    Hi Jane…

I have to get ready for work but I wanted to wish you a safe flight home. It was so nice to meet you and thanks for signing the book. I also got to meet a few others….Lisa & Jon of SS and Rebecca. I’m sorry you had to fly all the way here for a loss but one positive was the fact that Wang is starting to look like the Wang of old. He had a lot of groundballs and K’s which is a good thing. Hughes continues to impress too. Hopefully we win the series tonight…if the weather cooperates.

I’m off to Florida tomorrow for the three games….I’m hoping for a sweep !!!

    Have a great day ….

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

It was great to meet you and Michael yesterday! Thanks for signing my book. Sorry the game was so crappy, but like Peggy3 said at least Wang pitched decently. What is it with these no name pitchers who shut our offense down? Have a good flight back and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the Stadium.

  4. Jane Heller

Sorry about your thunderstorms, Len. Yes, that Cano double play was a killer. But being at the game last night made me miss living in NY all the more. How I wish I could go to more games!

Lori, that’s exactly what I yelled at them from my seat: How dare you let me down when I flew all the way across the country to see you! Very disappointed in the outcome but glad to be there.

    Thanks, Julia!

Peggy, it was wonderful to meet you and it’s true what I said: You always have something positive to say about the Yanks, even after a tough loss. You’re right about Wang and Hughes. Enjoy your trip to Marlins country and GO YANKS 2009.

It was great to meet you too, Cheshirecat, even though it was so loud at Stan’s that I could hardly hear anybody! The best part was being able to talk about the Yankees with you guys and see your passion for them first hand. Let’s hope Wang will get better and better from now on. As for Lannan? He was a hometown boy and I guess he just pitched his heart out. He totally handcuffed the offense.

I second everything cheshire cat says. It was great to meet you and Michael, and talk about our boys. Tough to take a loss to the Nats! These 9th inning dramas are getting to be a bit much. Safe trip home – Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the stadium.

  6. Jane Heller

Tough loss indeed, Ladyjane, but at least I got to sit and talk to you in those plush, comfy seats in section 323! Really enjoyed chatting about the Yanks and our respective fandoms. Please keep in touch!

  7. latinyankeerebel

Oh Jane, I feel so left out because I couldn’t go! grrr! I wasn’t even able to watch the last couple of games on TV. I’m happy to hear you had a blast at the signing… and I hope you had a great time at the game and the Stadium even though we lost to the Nats… hope to see many pics and videos from this trip!

  8. dschaub@gpo.gov

Well, I’m just glad you had a great time, other than the final score…thought they might pull it out, but only so much luck to be had…how did Michael like the food? GREAT to learn how you were treated like a “rock star” at Stan’s Bar, and the ballpark too…don’t be shy, young lady, you have EARNED it! Tell us more when u can…

  9. mlbmom

was so hopeful for the rally in the ninth.
    Today is new day.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the stadium.
When you think of it, I’d love to know Alex’s blog.
    Travel safe.

  10. Jane Heller

Latinyankeerebel, I’m sorry you missed the last few games and it would have been fun to meet you. One of these days….I’ll post the videos when I get home, but the subway noise will probably drown everybody out!

LOL, Jeff. I’m glad you stayed away from the fray. We can’t afford to lose you!

I wouldn’t say I was treated like a rock star, Dave. Hardly! We didn’t sell many books, but it was such fun getting to meet so many wonderful people I’ve been corresponding with for so long. Really great time. As for Lannan, maybe the Yankees should sign him!

Wendy, I’m hoping Alex will check in today and tell us the name of his blog himself! Yes, today is a new day and it’s pouring. I wonder if they’ll play tonight.

Definitely cool, Kaybee. Wish you were there.

Oh, darn — hoped you’d have a bit more success at Stan’s, but it still sounds like a Fine Time had by almost all. Sorry that I couldn’t join in, or get any amigos to the Bar…yeah, if your weather’s anything like ours, you may have to tread water just to get to the airport, let alone see any more beisbol with the locals. It’s hard living in Natstown; they are so pitiful that you want to support ’em — but the two times I’ve absolutely wanted ’em to lose (last night and two years ago, when Son #2 and I went to old RFK Stadium to see Yanks-Nats), of course they don’t…such is sports…hats off to “mikeeff” for what he said — those few minutes of hope are what it’s ALL about…profound and on target!!

  12. Jane Heller

Those last few minutes in the 9th were so exciting, Mike. We were all on our feet screaming for the Yanks to get it done – especially after Gardner stole second and third. So close.

You’re right, Latinyankeerebel. I’m so tired I can hardly remember what day it is.

Very true, Dave. The ninth made the game worth it. Lots of cheering. My voice is gone from all the yelling!

  13. crzblue2

that is wonderful that you got to meet so many bloggers and readers of your blog! We are having a get together from the InsidetheDodgers blog on June 27th. Is a day before my bday. We are going to do a tour and catch a game that day so is going to be nice meeting posters from that blog. i can’t wait to hear your report on the new stadium. Just rest enough before posting. I hope to meet you someday.

    Hi Jane,
It’s Lisa the other half of The Traveling Baseball Babes. I am so upset I could not come out with Serena to meet you . She told me she had a wonderful time at the book signing . Unfortunately Chicago got the best of me . I hope you enjoyed your trip to New York and I wanted to tell you how much I loved your book. Being a fan of a different team I was still able to relate to you and found myself laughing out loud while I read . I wish you safe travels and maybe Serena and I can meet up with you in the future.
    Best Wishes !!!

  15. Jane Heller

Your get-together on the 27th sounds terrific, Emma, and a wonderful pre-birthday gift. I may have to take your advice and get some sleep before the next post. I just got home and I’m exhausted.

Thanks, Alex. And forgive my brain cramp.

Lisa, so sorry you weren’t feeling well after your trip to Chicago. I heard it was fun though. I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the book even though the Yanks aren’t your team. I’d love to meet you one of these days!

    Hi, Jane …

It was so “great” to meet you, your husband Michael, and some of your family at your book signing at Stan’s Bar the other day !!! … I wish there was more time to talk with you and Michael; but, there were other fans behind me [in line] to meet with you at the time — so, it was only a short visit — but, a very special visit !!! … Hopefuly, I will have another chance to meet you [again] in the future !!! … Of course, I will continue to follow your day-to-day events by reading your always insightful thoughts, observations, and commentary on you “top-rated” mlblog !!!
Jane, I enjoyed reading your book !!! … It was a great read, detailing many stories and memories from the 2007 Yankees Baseball season !!! … It was a disappointing finish for the Yankees that year [of course, any year the Yankees do not win the World Series is disappointing]; but, it was fun to relive part of that season, again, through the words in your book; and, now, I look forward to the movie version of your book !!!
After I left the book signing, I went to the ticket booth at Yankee Stadium — and, there still were tickets available for that night’s game against the Nationals … So, I did purchase a bleachers ticket, and did attend the game, my first vist to the new Yankee Stadium !!! … I will write a post [soon] about my first experience in the new ballpark; but, I have to say, even though the new Yankee Stadium was extremely “state of the art”, I was not as impressed as I hoped I would be [for many different reasons] … The new Stadium just did not have the same feel of the old Yankee Stadium [in my opinion, anyway] !!! … More of my thoughts will follow on a future post !!! … It still was a great feeling, though, to just be in the new Yankee Stadium for the first time !!!
Once, again, it was a pleasure to meet you, Jane !!! … And, also, thanks, again, for the nice words you wrote in my copy of your book at the signing !!! … I will always cherish my copy of your “Confessions of a She-Fan” book !!!
Take care, Jane; and thanks for “all” your visits to my blog !!! … I offered a response to the comment you wrote on you latest visit to “BY&L” … So, when you get a chance to travel back to my mlblog, you can read my thoughts at your leisure !!!
Jane, it’s great to see that you and Michael had a safe trip back home; so, have an enjoyable weekend, and great time watching the Yankees on their long nine-game, National League, road trip !!!
    “Go Yankees” !!!
    — Jimmy 27NYY Curran, “BY&L”

  17. Jane Heller

Jimmy, it was great meeting you too. I felt as if I knew you from all your wonderful posts on your blog, so talking to you in person was a real treat! I’m so glad you enjoyed reliving the ’07 season through the book, even the not-so-good moments. And I’m really happy there were tickets available and you got to go to the game on Wed night (wish the outcome had been different). I’ll look forward to your thoughts about the new Stadium. Michael and I did have a safe trip home, so now it’s back to watching our Yanks on TV. Take care, Jimmy!
