Yanks-O’s Game 2: I’m Kidnapping Nick Markakis

markakis.jpg

He looks fairly harmless, doesn’t he? Well, he’s not. He’s a human wrecking ball….a one-man demolition derby….a Yankee killer.
Giant-Killer-Opie-59.jpg
Seriously. I don’t think the Yanks have ever gotten him out. Not ever.
But he’s not the reason the Bombers were beaten by the Birds 7-5. For the second consecutive game, our starting pitching reminded me of this.

Wang left his sinker up in the zone and, therefore, it never did this.

It didn’t help that Tex had a tight sphincter again, popping up with a runner on base in the first, third and fifth before ripping an RBI double in the ninth.
“I don’t see any panic here,” Johnny Damon told the media after the game.
Was he not aware of what was going on at my house?

Actually, I avoided a meltdown by joining the party over at Flair for the Dramatic, where Vanessa hosted a “Cover It Live” thingie. I ended up laughing with other similarly afflicted Yankee fans and commenting my little fingers off.
Have teams lost their first two games of the season and won the World Series? Yep.

And I’m not saying there weren’t positives.
* The relievers – Edwar, Jessica Alba, Veras – held the O’s scoreless.
* Jeter hit his first homer of the season and is off to a fast start.
* Jorge threw out his first runner following his surgery.
* Cano looks like the 2007 model.
* Swisher can really work a count.
* Gardner was speedy on that catch of Roberts’ bullet in the sixth.

But Wang wasn’t the pre-Lisfranc-injury Wang.

Instead, he looked like the Wang who allowed himself to be photographed here.

I know he’ll be fine. Really I do. But now it’s up to AJ to get us a “w” and avoid this.

I remember when I was a kid, and Tom Paciorek was the Yankee killer. There’s always someone. I am not feeling very confident about Wang right now since he had some iffy starts in spring training too. Hopefully he’ll find his groove sooner rather than later. I do feel better with A.J. Burnett on the mound today. Hopefully, the Yanks can leave Baltimore on the right foot.

And that’s why Nick has a six year deal, to play like that.
You forgot to acknowledge the fact Koji shut down your Yankees!! How would you kidnap him, get your cousin from Brooklyn.

Baseball is back in all its glory. I nearly had a heart attack watching the Mets bullpen last night. The Yanks always seem to come around when it’s important. There’s still 160 games left but it really doesn’t feel like enough.

Jane, have no fear. The Phillies managed to pull a win out of somewhere yesterday, so if they can do it, so can the Yanks! And yes, Wang dressed like a cheerleader is truly disturbing! Though maybe if he’d worn that to pitch, the O’s would have been so distracted they’d have all struck out. 🙂

    1. Sexy Wang pic.. jajajaja
    2. I was at the game last… we lost.. but I had fun… I was seating lower left field box, right behind Johnny Damon… some annoying O fans were screaming profanity to Damon, my response was yelling at Damon “Yo Johnny! Ignore them, they are just jealous because you are better looking than them!” I got many laughs from the crowd around me.
    3. The boos for Tex were silenced in the 9th by his rbi hit. Priceless!
    4. Derek Jeter made my night… “Derek show ’em some clutch!” and then… BANG! I was in heaven…
    5. I have no voice, therefore, I had a great time. :0)

I might go to today’s game it all depends if I finish my errands early, I get off from work at 1 today so yeah. :0)

The laughs were a tonic, Mike. It made the loss much more tolerable.

Scott, it seems like there’s a Yankee killer on every team. The name “Marco Scutero” comes to mind (shudder). Good thoughts for today!

0-for-3 and on to a championship, Julia. Right you are.

Should be the case, Steve, but the Yankees often have trouble with pitchers they’ve never seen before. I take nothing for granted.

I don’t have a cousin in Brooklyn, Orangebird, but I’ll make a few phone calls and see if I can scare somebody up.

Gomets, I hope you’re right. Just two games. I’ll laugh about this in September.

Ellie, I read about that game. You must have been going crazy! Glad it had a happy ending.

Russ, the pic was taken when Wang was a rookie. The Yankees always do this hazing thing at the end of the season, making the rookies dress up in crazy outfits. Better a cheerleader than Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, which was Ian Kennedy’s costume last year.

Great comeback by the Phillies, Sue. I couldn’t believe the score when I saw it. Whew, right?

Sorry you lost your voice but glad you stood up for us, Latinyankeerebel. Now we need you back out there today. Bring us luck!

Will that happen before or after Albert strains an oblique, Jeff?

We’re gonna boo Teixera…if he keeps pop-pop-popping up! Sorry, but that song will be hanging in my head for oh, about the next six months. My Oreos fan-friends LOVED it… Yeah, hope that AJ has a little bit more to offer than our first two hurlers, or else WE’LL be hurling soon, if ya knowhutImean…but your pix always manage to burst my bad-mood-balloons, thank you very much! I wonder if Orangebird is referring to the Brooklyn suburb of Baltimore, which really exists but which I’ve never visited…let’s hope that you can make it to Camden Yards this summer, with Michael too; we’ll hook up with that Latinyankeerebel, eat some good Boog Food, and drive the locals krazy!!

  10. latinyankeerebel

Jenn, I know what you mean about kidnapping Markakis, the same thoughts ran through my mind. 😉

dschaub, y’all should defenitely come over. It would be fun to hang out with lots of Yankee fans! :0)

  11. Jane Heller

Ah, Chad Moeller. He was a good pickup for you guys, Ken. He helped the Yanks out a lot last year and I’m glad he landed with a major league club.

Dave and Latinyankeerebel, you two should go to a game at Camden Yards and sit together. I know the Yankees would be well represented if you were there. And maybe I can come too. The lure of Boog’s is hard to resist.

  12. latinyankeerebel

    Well, you are invited Jane!!

Everyone, I’m about to head out to Baltimore right now… Will check on y’all laters! c ya!

  13. Jane Heller

Latinyankeerebel, you’re bringing AJ luck so far. He’s actually striking batters out.

Erin, how about a voodoo doll?

  14. Jane Heller

Things sure are going better today, V. We’re up 9-2 right now!

Thanks, Baseballintheattic. I aim to please. 🙂

Now that’s the kind of game I want to see the Yankees play! I hope Swisher is starting in right field tomorrow. He is on fire!

  16. mikeeff

it was quite a relief, wasn’t it? especially when we just put the beat down on them. swisher is really making a case, but who should sit? something i’m going to think about.

but how bout cano? wow. this is just what we need. he is SO key to this line up.

and the pen. i dont think they even gave up a hit.

    Hi, Jane,

Of course you have heard about the tragic death of Nick Adenhart after the A’s-Angels game last night. What a downer to wake up after celebrating a huge come-from-behind win for the A’s, to find that the terrific young starting pitcher for the Angels was killed in a car crash after the game last night. As appropriate, tonight’s game has been rescheduled to a later date.

I blogged about it today. Check it out at http:/contractyear.mlblogs.com.

Hope you are well and your Bronx Bombers don’t let you down.

It was all good in today’s game, Mike. A big relief. I love that Cano is taking pitches and spraying them around. Huge for us. And AJ?I could be falling for him. Too early to say, but it’s possible.

Yes, I did read about it, Bee, and I just posted a brief note myself. I’ll go visit your blog now and see what you wrote. I’m sure it was heartfelt.
