The Captain Rocks/Carl Pavano Limps
So much for David Price stopping Jeter’s ride into history. What a great at bat, letting the rookie show him a few pitches, then smashing one into the seats to tie Gehrig. Jeet did it so many ways – beating out a grounder, beating out a bunt, hitting one of his trademark inside-out opposite fielders, going yard. I’m thinking he should run for President in 2012.
And oops, there goes Pavano. Did he strain his hip? His groin? Or did he tweak those tender buttocks again? Get the MRI tube ready!
Looks to be the right hamstring to me. Unbelievable.
Jeet’s career has been amazing, seems it’s only fitting that he breaks a record held by a legends, and will hold the record for all time.
I have no words left for Pavano. It’s just… wow.

V: Looks like we’re the only ones watching this game. Either that, or we’re the only ones crazy enough to blog during it:) What’s up with Cano? So far Michael Kay is only speculating why he was taken out. Maybe an injury during that feed from Cody Ransom or maybe a benching by Girardi for not hustling after the ball skipped off Giambi’s glove?

Unofficial diagnosis on Pavano: strained left hip. So I’m wondering how strained? Is he done? And what about Abreu? Did he hurt his knee last night or was he just getting a day off? And then there’s the above mystery about Cano. So many questions. So little time.

Alas poor Pavano, I knew him well…
I don’t think there’s any question why Cano was yanked; it was because he’s lazy and has his head firmly entrenched in his posterior. It’s very interesting; the one thing that Girardi was known for during his year in Florida was getting the most from his young players—-they hustled and played hard no matter what—-but both Cano and Melky Cabrera have been playing like their jobs were an entitlement instead of needing to be earned. This is not good.

If Girardi did bench Cano for being lazy, like Maddon benched Upton a couple of times, why did he wait until the last homestand of the season? Isn’t it a little late to be making a statement?
